Osprey

Osprey is a FPGA-based co-processor card available in ISA and PCI form that emulated the CPU and memory of legacy Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-11 computer systems.  Osprey is designed and manufactured by Strobe Data, Inc.  Salem Automation is a registered vendor capable of supplying and installing the Osprey solution.

Osprey card is ideal for Windows-based server.  The card works in conjunction with software components that allow legacy PDP compatible physical devices such as disk drives, tape drives, serial cards, and other common I/O devices to be virtualized.  Osprey also provides the user the ability to connect to a physical UNIBUS or QBUS, allowing it to interface with PDP compatible I/O cards.

ISA based boards

Osprey /DX (P/N 9687) - Successor to Osprey 18B, EISA/ISA bus compatible, it occupies one PC slot. Writable control store FPGA implementation of PDP-11 architecture with 4 MBytes of tightly coupled, zero wait-state memory. Performance equivalent to DCJ11. Rapidly processed "virtual" I/O instructions makes this card ideal for Osprey/PC applications where all applicable I/O devices are emulated on the PC by Osprey software. Includes MS-DOS compatible support software. Windows/NT environment support available.

Osprey /DXP (P/N 9740-D) - Double+ speed Osprey Co-Processor. Occupies one ISA/EISA PC slot. Writable control store, FPGA implementation of PDP-11 architecture with 4 MBytes of tightly coupled, zero wait-state memory. Includes FPJ11® compatible hardware floating point. Performance equivalent twice the DCJ-11® and 100%; of FPJ-11. On-card x86 microprocessor rapidly processes "virtual" I/O instructions. This card is used for Osprey/PC applications where all applicable I/O devices are emulated on the PC by Osprey software. Includes standard environment support for MS-DOS® V6.2.2. Windows/NT® environment support available.

Osprey /SXP (P/N 9740-S) - PCI version of the Osprey /SX successor to the Osprey 18B Occupies one PCI slot. A writable control store, FPGA implementation of the PDP-11 architecture with 4 MBytes of tightly coupled, zero wait-state memory. Includes FPJ11® compatible hardware floating point. On-card x86 microprocessor rapidly processes "virtual" I/O instructions. Qbus®/Unibus® support logic for non-emulated devices is provided on-board with connector to wide bandwidth fibrechannel Qbus or Unibus adapter Operates only under Windows/NT. WNT Support license included.

Osprey /DXP (P/N 9740-D) - Double speed Windows/NT Osprey Co-Processor for two times the system throughput, or more. Occupies one PCI slot. A writable control store, FPGA implementation of the PDP-11 architecture with 4 MBytes of tightly coupled, zero wait-state memory. Includes FPJ11® compatible hardware floating point. Performance equivalent 2.0 times the DCJ-11® and 100%; of FPJ-11. On-card x86 microprocessor rapidly processes "virtual" I/O instructions. Performance equivalent 4.5 times the DCJ-11® and 130% of FPJ-11. On-card x86 microprocessor rapidly processes "virtual" I/O instructions.
